Transformitive 32 Day Challenge

A YEAR FROM NOW...YOU’LL WISH THAT YOU HAD STARTED TODAY!

From time to time I will encourage your student to take the 32 day Challenge.

Many of my fellow teachers have had great success with this project.

Many students have found that it changes their relationship with the piano in a very positive way.

Parents have reported better practice habits in their students.

I hope you will read about the challenge and join in the fun.

The challenge came about because of an article about astronauts in training. When astronauts prepare to go into space they must get used to functioning without gravity. Without gravity they are free to move in all directions, including upside down. Part of their training for this is to wear special goggles. When worn, these goggles make everything appear upside down. You can imagine the physical discomfort of this - nausea being one.

The astronauts practice wearing these goggles for 32 days straight because it takes 32 days of consistent practice for the brain to form a new neurological pathway. Once formed this unusual way of "seeing" the world will seem normal.I hope you will read about the challenge and join in the fun.

Thus, 32 consecutive days of piano practice will result in a new way of relating to piano, the practice of piano, music and the environment in which one lives. Students who have gone through this challenge came out of it with this very result.

I'm so excited about the 32 DAY CHALLENGE!

Here are the rules:

* practice is done 32 days in a row

* practice includes work and play (10 to 15 minutes of work=anything in the assignment and any old songs that need revival; 5+ minutes of play=playing for fun this includes songs from the playlist, compositions, duets, etc. and this can be done anywhere on anyone's piano:)

* some days you may only have 5 minutes, other days you may have 40 minutes, determine what and how your child will practice based on the amount of time he/she has

* practice can include songs played on the keypad

* if you miss a day of practice, you must make it up the following day by practicing double time

* if you miss two days in a row, you must start the challenge over

* your days will only be added to the chart if your playlist is marked

* if your playlist isn't marked, you must start the challenge over

* determine what prize your child will receive upon completion

* plan to offer incentives along the way . Each family will need to decide on a prize that was meaningful to their student. Some students know exactly what they want and others complete the 32 days without needing that incentive

* parents must oversee the playlist/practice to be sure all marks are authentic

The 32 Day Challenge is a challenge. There will be days your child will NOT want to practice. But the result is worth the struggle.

It takes 32 days for a new neurological pathway to form in the brain. Your child's relationship to the piano, to his/her practice and to music is about to be transformed!

A YEAR FROM NOW.

YOU’LL WISH THAT YOU HAD STARTED TODAY!
